Roles and Permissions

Last updated: March 16, 2026

Overview

Permissions in Constructable determine what each person can see and do within a project.

Because our platform includes many workflows—each with its own visibility and editing settings—access can vary from person to person. If you’re unable to view, create, or edit something, it’s usually related to your assigned role or the project’s permission settings.

Access differences are normal and intentional—they help ensure everyone sees exactly what’s relevant to them.

Roles in Constructable

Permissions are grouped into Internal and External roles.

Internal Roles

  • Admin

  • Manager

  • Employee

External Roles

  • Owner

  • Owner (Limited)

  • Consultant

  • Subcontractor (Office)

  • Subcontractor (Field)

  • Bidder

Each role includes a predefined set of permissions that determine access across workflows.

How Permissions Work

There are two primary layers of access: organizational and project-level.

Organization-Level Roles

Your assigned role determines your general access across the platform. These settings are typically managed by your organization’s Admin.

Project-Level Permissions

Some workflows allow additional project-specific permission adjustments. This means your access may differ from one project to another.

Because permissions vary by workflow, you may notice that you can:

  • View but not edit certain items

  • See only items assigned to you

  • Access a workflow in one project but not another

This is expected behavior based on your role and project configuration.

Common Access Questions

Why can’t I see this workflow?

Your assigned role or project permissions may not include access to that workflow.

Why can I only see items assigned to me?

Some external roles are intentionally limited to assigned items.

Why can't I edit this item?

You may have view-only access in that workflow, or editing rights may be restricted to certain roles.

Who can change my permissions?

Your organization’s Admin typically manages role permissions. If you believe your access should be adjusted, reach out to your Manager or Admin first.
