Navigating in Drawing Viewer
Last updated: January 2, 2026
Overview
The drawing viewer includes intuitive navigation tools that enable users to move around drawings efficiently and review plans with ease. This article explains how to navigate an open drawing, including panning, selecting, zooming, and using keyboard shortcuts.
By understanding these navigation options, teams can quickly move through large drawings, switch between tools as needed, and review plans without interrupting their workflow.
Navigation
There are two ways you can navigate around an open drawing sheet. The first is the select tool, and the second is the pan tool.
With the select tool (default), you can use your trackpad to move around the sheet. Click, move, and edit individual markups, and bulk-edit multiple markups with the select tool.
With the pan tool (hand), you can click and drag to move around the sheet.
Note: The pan tool does not allow you to select or edit any markups on the sheet. It is strictly for moving around the screen. As you can see in the video, clicking a markup while using the pan tool will do nothing.
Zooming
To zoom, you can use any of the following methods:
Trackpad: Pinch and zoom in/out with two fingers.
Keyboard: Press plus (+) and minus (-) keys.
Mouse with scroll wheel: Hold the command key while scrolling.
Pro Tip: You can zoom with the scroll wheel only by enabling it in your account settings. To do so, navigate to your user profile (click your name in the lower-left corner), scroll down to the "User Preferences" drop-down, and toggle "Scroll wheel zooms the drawing viewer". With this feature enabled, you will need to actively click the select tool in the drawing viewer to select elements on the sheet.
Keyboard Shortcuts / Hotkeys
Our drawing viewer offers many shortcut options. For navigation, the two hotkeys, "s" and "space," let you quickly switch between the pan and select tools. If you’re using the select tool, you can access the pan tool by holding the space bar down and clicking and dragging around the screen. If you’re using the pan tool and press the "s" key, the navigation will switch back to the select tool.
